Lucy Brazier is a British writer, trying to live a quiet life in middle England. Now in her 40s, she has been writing since a very young age, which she finds annoyingly clichéd. She was inspired to try writing ‘properly’ in her teens after reading Oscar Wilde at school and his works remain a strong influence. Lucy also has a great passion for James Joyce and has written books on both Finnegans Wake and Ulysses. She would love to write her own post-modern stream-of-consciousness novel, but is far too introverted and polite.
Aside from writing, Lucy loves cricket, food (both the cooking and the eating of), tea, food, the city of Seville, naps and food again. Having written seven books, she says she is unlikely to write anymore, but probably will. Lucy is very small in real life.

How interesting! Looking forward to having a look around
Well thank you, Andy! Please do make yourself at home. I had a peek at your blog and am excited to see it has tales of China – I was lucky enough to visit once and the country has a special place in my heart.
Oh great > Where did you go? There are still so many places I havent been to yet. How’s the publishing going? And thanks for following PorterGirl 🙂
I went to Beijing, Shian (unsure of spelling!) and Shanghai! It was a wonderful experience – I fell in love with the tea houses! I am currently working on a book that will be out this summer. It is… testing, shall we say.
Deadlines are a pain but at least we move forward double time. How was Shanghai and Xian? Never been there.
Xian was great – we stayed in a hotel on a square surrounding a bell tower and on the Sunday morning all the locals came out and sang their local operas – it was quite a way to be woken up! Shanghai was incredible – especially Old Shanghai which we toured around in a little boat. Because I am so pale skinned, I constantly got stopped for photographs and in Tiananmen square a group of old ladies started stroking my hair and skin!
Sounds awesome. I hope to go to Xian this year so I’ll definitely head for the bell tower. Thanks PorterGirl and have a great day 🙂
Brilliant, I hope you write about it! Have a super day 🙂
Hey, Lucy! I just watched the first episode of season two of Grantchester – a British mystery we get on our local public channel. And guess what? The Head Porter did it!
I saw it too!!! Much of Granchester is filmed in Cambridge so you can get a good idea of what it is like. I rather felt they must have been reading my blog!!
I thought of your blog immediately I’ve been to Cambridge three times, once had dinner with the Master at one of the colleges (can’t remember which one; a friend was a fellow there) and was NOT appreciated because I wore a pantsuit. It was 1973 or 4, and I had a cold and was so chilled, I shook the table. I’ll have to ask my friend what she remembers.
Gosh that sounds so marvellous! What a shame that you were not well at the time. That is quite something, to dine with the Master. Cambridge is a lovely city but I suppose I am rather biased.
We met someone from Cambridge in our travels and had a good laugh over the number of murders and sleuths in Cambridge (on TV of course!).
Oxford has a fair few too but of course ours are far better 🙂
Couldn’t agree more! Especially yours truly!
Oh now you are making me blush!
